Responsive Contractor Website Redesign for Universal Home Improvement

Universal Home Improvement needed a website that could better represent its extensive construction services and make it easier for homeowners to request an estimate. Based in Belmont, California, the company serves San Francisco and San Mateo counties, specializing in drainage, waterproofing and retaining walls.

I replaced a very outdated website with a large, responsive WordPress website built with Avada. The project brought together detailed service pages, an extensive dropdown mega menu, contact forms, project galleries, search engine optimization and video content in one consistent design.

A Large Website Built Around Specialized Contractor Services

This redesign required thoughtful organization across many pages. I created layouts for the homepage, services overview, individual service pages, customer testimonials, project gallery, free estimate page and contact page, giving visitors clear ways to explore the company and its work.

The service pages covered:

  • French drain installation and drainage solutions.
  • Foundation, basement and crawl space waterproofing.
  • Retaining wall installation, including solid concrete, concrete block and wooden retaining walls.
  • Driveway and patio drains.
  • Sump pump installation.

Dedicated service pages gave each specialty room for useful information, supporting images and clear calls to action. This structure helps homeowners find the service that matches their needs while giving the business a stronger foundation for service-specific and local search visibility.

Extensive Mega Menu Navigation and Responsive Layouts

With so many services to present, navigation was an important part of the project. I built an extensive dropdown mega menu that gives visitors direct access to individual service pages without having to search through the entire website.

The responsive design adapts the website for desktop computers, tablets and smartphones. Page layouts, navigation and contact options were designed to help visitors explore services and take the next step from the device they prefer.

Clear Calls to Action and Convenient Estimate Forms

I included calls to action throughout the website, directing visitors toward free estimates, callback requests and contact options. Using Avada Forms, I added inquiry forms that let homeowners share their contact details, location and project needs.

These contact opportunities connect the service information with a practical next step. A visitor researching waterproofing or a retaining wall can move from learning about the work to asking about their own project.

Website SEO, YouTube Video SEO and Google Analytics

My work included website search engine optimization using Yoast SEO, with attention to the company’s specialized services and local market. The website connects its offerings with relevant locations, including Belmont, San Mateo, San Francisco, Redwood City, San Carlos and surrounding Bay Area communities.

I also provided YouTube video SEO for multiple service-related videos. Videos incorporated into service pages give visitors another way to learn about the company’s work and support its broader online marketing efforts.

Google Analytics setup gave the client a way to monitor website traffic and visitor activity, providing useful information for future content and marketing decisions.

Client Content, Adobe Stock Images and Real Project Photography

The client used AI to help prepare the content he wanted on the website. I worked with that supplied material to organize and present it within the page designs, creating a consistent experience across the larger site.

I selected Adobe Stock photography for the website’s supporting imagery. The gallery photographs came from the client, showcasing his company’s actual construction projects. Customer testimonials added another way for prospective customers to learn about the business through the experiences of previous clients.

Video Tutorials for Confident Website Updates

I created video tutorial guides to show the client how to edit and manage the website after the project was complete. These guides gave him a resource he could return to when updating content, helping him take ownership of the finished WordPress website.

A Client Relationship That Led to Another Construction Project

This client later referred me to another construction company, leading to my website redesign for California Development and Renovation. That referral is a meaningful part of this project’s story and reflects the value of building lasting relationships with the business owners I support.
